Tongue-in-cheek archness hit its apex with this vintage television series about two iconoclastic British superspies. Diana Rigg is delicious as Mrs. Emma Peel -- cool, sophisticated and formidable -- and John Steed (Patrick Macnee) is implacably droll whether wielding his lethal bumbershoot or sipping a dry martini. The wonderful brio they shared has seldom been equaled among crime-fighting duos -- on either side of the Big Pond.
