Turkish sultan Abdul Hamid (Fritz Kortner) is deathly -- and rightly -- afraid of being overthrown and assassinated for his many misdeeds. Directed by Karl Grune, the movie is a penetrating character study of a foolish despot who becomes terrorized by his own reign of terror (in that regard, he has much historical company!). Ultimately, he unwittingly engineers his own downfall. Esme Percy, Nils Asher and Adrienne Ames co-star.
