Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman star in this comedy-drama as mother-daughter duo Adele and Ann August. Bored with her life in small-town Wisconsin, flighty Adele leaves her husband and heads for Beverly Hills with Ann reluctantly in tow. While Adele dreams of snagging a rich husband and making her daughter into a movie star, the far more grounded Ann marches toward adulthood. Portman received a Golden Globe nod for her performance.
