Frank T. Hopkins (Viggo Mortensen), reputed to be one of the best riders of the Wild West, gets his chance to prove his talent when an affluent sheik invites him to join one of the most outrageous and grueling races of all: a 3,000-mile trek across the Arabian Desert. Previously, the event was open only to those who ride Arabian horses. But now Hopkins is allowed to join the fray with his faithful mustang, Hidalgo.
