A competent but unambitious shooter for Wii. Controls work very well, probably the best FPS pointer controls on the system right now. However, interface is clunky, particularly for multiplayer, and the art and story are utterly dull and generic.

The foremost Western. Intensely paced, witty and harrowing, wide range of set pieces and characters. Eastwood at his best.

Documentary of an amazing photographer, and as you'd expect the visuals are incredible and excellent. Nicely restrained narration. However, the pace drags quite a bit, particularly in the latter half.

Yet another of Ubisoft's many re-releases of the aging but highly-regarded platformer Rayman 2. Unfortunately, the sound and music are unbalanced and cut out randomly, and the 3D effect actually ruins some of the clever textures. Just play it on PC.

Fun but short. Visuals weak for a 3DS game, and the music always cuts out just as it gets interesting. Control mechanism satisfying and novel, but ultimately it couldn't make up for the so sparse content. Secondary "Steel Commander" mode awful.

Very strong movie, violent and powerful throughout, holds no punches but still poetic, not overbearing. Wonderful work on the long cover-to-cover scene.

As expected from a Mario game, it's quite fun and varied, with strong level design. Particularly liked the "shmup" levels. But, it's far far too short, and the physics and motion seem a little wonky and unreliable compared to the original NES game.

Fun remake of the classic N64 game. Stealth and action segments both work quite well. Lovely visuals in the level design. But, aiming controls are only okay; not as good as Prime 3, for example. And the multiplayer is just bog-standard FPS stuff.

Metroid-alike game with some new ideas and approaches, particularly the plane-shifting. Humorous and challenging throughout. Could've used a better map system, though.

Resort provides all the fun exploration and challenging missions expected from a Pilotwings game, but felt unfinished. Really needed more than one island and a true free-flight mode. Also, the plane physics were far too forgiving and simple.

Met and exceeded all my expectations from the first groundbreaking game. Wonderful pacing, satisfying puzzles. Kept its sense of humor but also showed more insight into the characters. The co-op mode was especially fun, particularly split-screen.

A cross section of Sagan's ideas and ideals, from his optimism and wonder at the universe to his concern about humanity's future. Well written in his enthusiastic style, though each essay seems rather disconnected from its neighbours.

Finishes the series in a very satisfying way, showing the many new cultures and people on Mars, Earth, and elsewhere, while also concluding the stories of the First Hundred. The most imaginative of the series, but still comfortably "hard" SF.

An average Heinlein book in every way, unfortunately missing the innovation of his best work. Conspicuously 50s-esque portrayal of women. The last third picked up in quality and character.

Maybe I would've enjoyed this if I were a Jane Austen fan. I'm not, so the book's novelty wore off very quickly, especially since it was clear the author was changing existing text, not just adding new bits in between.
